Vintage Vibe: No new stuff for local DJ
The personal style of Alex aka DJ Moustache.

"Hey, this is Alex, aka DJ Moustache, from Gigantic Vintage. Just figured I’d participate in this style thing since it is my second passion, No. 1 being records."
Have a cool style?
It’s cool to me, I’m not sure if it’s cool to others, but as long as I look ‘70s.
What’s in your closet?
Seventy-five-plus shirts, 30+ jackets & sweaters, 10+ pairs of pants, 75+ pairs of shoes, and a bunch of random crap I don’t want taking up space in my house. All the clothes range from the ‘60s to the ‘80s - no new stuff for me. Well, OK, I have new underwear and socks, but everything else is vintage!
How do you label your style?
Seventies. However, I’m not trying to look all rock ‘n’ roll ‘70s or like any certain scene or style from the ‘70s. I just want to look like a regular guy who stepped into the present from the ‘70s.
How do you express yourself?
Moustache.
What are songs you always blast when you get your ensembles together?
I don’t really blast certain songs, but I think I like to get dressed to ‘60s and ‘70s soul. It makes me feel like I’m getting ready to have a good night. In fact, soul music makes anything better - even eating breakfast.
What advice do you have for people searching for their own look?
Just do what feels right and wear what you like regardless of what people might say or think. You know who you are, don’t let someone tell you who to be.
Is Bakersfield suffering from a fashion crisis?
I personally feel that Bakersfield is a fashion crisis period. I don’t blame the people or the stores, I think the lack of fashion sense is due to the fact that Bakersfield needs more culture. As the city grows I hope that fashion and culture will thrive, especially since a lot of people are moving in from out of town. Only time will tell.
Are you going to be DJing anywhere soon?
I’ll be DJing at The Mothership Sept. 29th, at Sandrini’s in downtown Bako.

Moustache.....
