The Internet…
It brings joy, sadness, helps build lives and offers no remorse should your life hit the skids - but that’s what makes it so intriguing.
It also supplies a certain type anxiety keeping us on our toes when we wake up everyday.
Who’s going to e-mail me today? Will this be the day I pick the right lottery numbers? Am I going to be fired from my job? I’m wearing my last pair of clean chonies and I have date tonight! Wha?
That fear and anxiety is usually accompanied by an often paralyzing frustration that keeps us from moving forward, leaving us with unanswered questions.
Hanging out with HowCool.com founder Jim Stidham recently for this week’s feature story, I learned a lot about turning some of that familiar fear into gold.
You see, Stidham was a hair close to graduating from college when everyone and their momma decided to dive into the game known as the “Internet business.”
In the mid-‘90s computers began popping up in homes everywhere, but functionality was still primitive compared to today’s standards. Fans of the PC and Mac realms worked tirelessly to get ahead.
Stidham started HowCool.com as a project during the dot com boom, putting all his effort into making his future happen.
Almost a decade later, Stidham is still taking charge of his fears and thinking big. No time to worry about failure, just glory.
So to all future entrepreneurs, inventors and out-of-the-box thinkers - trust your instincts, for the Net is your oyster - so sayeth Stidham.
On a side note…
Bakotopia would like send our condolences to the family and friends of Ashley Teegue who recently passed away in Bakersfield. Ashley was known to many as Starxcore and was friend to many locals as a piercing and tattoo artist at Mad Dog Tattoo in Bakersfield.
I met Ashley in 2005 while organizing a benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims at The Dome. Ashley came up onstage to help pass out free giveaways to attendees. I remember her laughing when I told her she had to check ID before she gave out the free Suicide Girl memberships.

Rest Easy Ashley…
