What Does Homer Joy & Vince Vaughn Have In Common?
Los Angeles, CA --- What does singer/songwriter Homer Joy and actor Vince Vaughn have in common? "Streets of Bakersfield," that's what!
On iTunes Celebrity Playlist, Vince Vaughn was asked to select 12 songs he would love to have on an album. Those 12 songs were made available on one CD and, as of January 29, 2008, are sold on iTunes. Track two chosen by Vince was "Streets of Bakersfield" written by Homer Joy.
According to the popular actor, "Buck Owens defined the Bakersfield Sound. Buck and Dwight's duet on this song written by Homer Joy exemplifies that sound and attitude. It is a tremendous cowboy/rebel anthem."
Here's a little "Streets of Bakersfield" history: Homer Joy first recorded "Streets of Bakersfield" when he was an artist on Capitol Records and at the same time he was employed by Buck Owens Enterprises as a Songwriter/Artist. Later, Buck Owens cut the song and then Buck and Dwight Yoakum did the "Streets of Bakersfield" duet. Recently, "Streets of Bakersfield" was featured in Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights.
Meanwhile, Homer Joy's current single, "John Law," a duet with the late great Buck Owens has hit #1 status on the Indie Charts and is being played all over the world. "John Law" is the first single from Homer's CD Someday It'll Be Country. It is the first of many more #1 songs to come in 2008 and beyond for this much loved hitmaker.
