The crew of Pain is Beauty tattoo shop, 1518 18th St., didn’t have to go far when putting together ideas for the latest cover of Bakotopia.

An original piece put together to commemorate Buck and “Bakersfield Sound” was a collaborative effort by all six of the shop’s artists.

Like a “jam session” of sorts, artist Steve “Frost” Avalos, along with shop manager Chris, put the project into motion swiftly one sunny day downtown.

“Chris always has good ideas, and it’s good to get his input,” said Avalos as he carefully placed final touches on the group work. “Bill Woods is my wife’s grandpa, so I also got some inspiration there. As a kid, she used ride on the saddle Buck had in the back seat of convertible.”

Other Pain is Beauty staff, including “Duane Tha Train,” “Johnny D,” “Young Matt,” and “Josh,” who added their own personal imagery to the work, agree the spirit of Buck’s legacy is still very much alive.

“We just wanted to put something together to show some love for the city,” said Chris.
