Bakersfield artists always band together for good causes.
On Friday, April 11, Narducci’s Café will host an art show/fundraiser concert beginning at 9 p.m.
Sponsored by ArtBeats, the show will feature collections by local artists OMS, Corie Fanshier, and Yadira Juarez - for whom the show will benefit. Filami Clothing will also be selling T-shirts of original designs. All proceeds will go to help Juarez with medical bills.
Juarez, 25, who suffers from leukemia, was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Younger brother Omar (OMS) knew he had to help his sister during her time of need.
“Yadira is a single mom with two kids,” said brother Omar of his sister. “The doctors helped her with the leukemia, but now with the ovarian cancer, she needs even more help."
Omar, along with other fellow artists, are part of an underground “urban” art scene in Bakersfield. Not often seen in some of the more local mainstream galleries, the art collective will set up anywhere they can to show their wares offering fans free entry to enjoy.
“We always have shows and never charge,” he said. “But this show is special.”
All pieces displayed will be for sale with prices ranging from $40 to $200.
In addition to the art show, music by Velorio, The Natural Movement, and Vecar will also be featured throughout the evening.
