‘The 99 Cent Show’
Local filmmaker has big plans for independent entertainment company

Created in December 2007 by Bakersfield’s John Uranday, “The 99 Cent Show” on Brighthouse Networks was created to showcase established artists and introduce those trying to take their career to the next level.
Uranday has always had a love for the music and film industry, so the decision to combine his two loves - music and film - was meant to be.
In 2000, Uranday founded Cultures United Thru Media (CUTM) Entertainment with the sole purpose of creating independent films for urban audiences. The company’s first release, titled “Ringside,” was a minor independent hit in the underground movie scene.
In an early business move, the movie rights to “Ringside,” were eventually traded for an internet Web site, later becoming the first live video music station, The Core.

Although the venture failed to payoff, it provided Uranday more opportunity - allowing him to re-launch CUTM after a brief hiatus, where he has shot and produced several independent music videos, including 2007’s “Stereotype.”
Not one to slow down, Uranday and team premiered the first episode of “The 99 Cent Show” on Bakersfield’s Brighthouse Networks this past February. Eric Silva, the show’s DP/editor, came up with the show’s name.
Much like its name, the show is a fun, low-budget blend of celebrity interviews and music videos from the CUTM library. Hosts of the show include Punky, 24 K.G., Mikey on the Mic, and Rose. Photographer Marissa Surritt and producer David Creech round out this local creative crew.

Since the show’s first episode, popularity has been on the rise. So much so that one of Uranday’s goals is to make “The 99 Cent Show” an hour-long, nationally broadcast TV program.
So whether you are a musician, comedian or actor, “The 99 Cent Show” wants to be the show that gives up and coming artists their chance to succeed in a tough industry.
So if you don’t know - now you know!
Check out the finale to the inaugural season of “The 99cent Show” on June 17 at 10 p.m. on Brighthouse Network CH 20. Check your listings for your local Brighthouse Network.

I like Hectic Films as Bakersfield Independant film Makers. All episodes of B.U.N.S. are better than ANY episode of ANY other Film company in bakersfield.
