Ladies and gentlemen - start your engines and bring your mojo with you - the fourth annual Bakersfield Thunder Run is back!

Taking over the Kern County Fairgrounds through Father’s Day weekend, June 14-15, this year’s custom bike, bikini, music, and car show promises to be the biggest party yet!


2006 Thunder Run Bikini Contest

Let’s start with the featured builders who bring these creations to life: Chica and Scott Long from Discovery Channel’s “Biker Build Off” show, Big Daddy, Kirk Taylor, and Sacred Steel. The big boys have come to party in Bakersfield!

But it’s not just about the big timers, there are plenty of solid players in the cycle building game to meet throughout the weekend - Backroad Choppers, L.E. Customs, Vicious Cycle Choppers, Santa Clarita Choppers, Sick & Twisted Psycles, O School Choppers - so much talent, the fairgrounds will be roaring from sunup to sundown.

Chica

A new addition to this year is the pre-’72 custom hot rod show also taking place, so if your ride qualifies, sign it up when gates open at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Kicking off the day’s events is Bakersfield’s very own HowCool.com, with two hot fashion shows on the mainstage, followed by the Extreme Motorsports Burnout Contest, hosted by the lovely Jennifer Scott, and KRAB radio’s equally lovely Meathead, who will keep the events cruisin’ all day long.

You’ll also notice the new “Budweiser Biker Bar” tent next to stage, where your beer belly is welcome and flashing is encouraged.

Of course, you can’t have a bikefest without babes - bring on the ladies, yo!


Purrfect Angelz

The lovelies from Purrfect Angelz will be keep engines revving with their blend of crazy, sexy, rock and roll burlesque - making way for music with Fan Halen (Van Halen tribute band,) and Tru 2 Cru (a Motley Crue tribute.)

Not be outdone by the rockers, the Valley Boats Ultimate Bikini Contest is sure to attract every howlin’ wolf in the place, so make sure you have fresh batteries in that camera, and don’t lose your spot, especially when DJ D-Money keeps the girls in step on the catwalk.

As the sun starts to set, and you’ve checked out all the cool vendor booths and food courtesy of Nikki’s Smokin’ BBQ, and Grills Gone Wild, make sure you check out the Jennifer Scott Band and Abduction, because the real party starts at night.



Did you know the Thunder Run is also Bako’s biggest campout? With your admission ticket, you’ve also got yourself a spot on the Thunder Run campground, located right on the premises - bring your bike, too!

According to Meathead, last year’s campground was absolutely nuts! Someone actually brought a dunk tank to the campground, girls kept cool in mini-pools, and music rocked the walkways until gates re-opened Father’s Day morning. Don’t forget your earplugs.

If you still have some energy left on Sunday morning, you’ll be happy to know that Sunday biker church services will be help get your spirit right with the man upstairs. Lord knows every rider needs a guardian biker angel.

After the awards show at noon, the music kicks back in with Sunday Snake Oil, and the classically rockin - American Smogg. Bassist Richard Kent just won Ted Nugent tix and is ready to kick off his weekend properlike!

The brainchild of founders Mike Freeny and Alex Benavidez, the Bakersfield Thunder Run is here to add another cool element to the rich culture of the city of Bakersfield.

Meet DJ D-Money!

D-Money at Coachella 2007

Providing the official sounds at this year’s Thunder Run is a Bakersfield DJ who has performed at several major local venues as well as clubs in Arizona and Nevada.

D-Money enjoys being a member of the Bakersfield nightlife scene, and is even trying his hand at recording some original tunes.

We tracked down D-Money to find out what brought him back to the Bakersfield Thunder Run for the third year in a row.

Q. What brings you back to the Thunder Run?

A. I have played at all kinds of different events and festivals, but the energy level of the Thunder Run makes me look forward to it year after year. I have shared the stage at this event with some awesome bands and met some great people. It is definitely one of the most exciting local events.

Q. What is your favorite part of the Thunder Run weekend?

A. I love Saturday afternoon when the entire crowd gathers around the main stage to watch everything from the burnout contest to the bikini contest. Beautiful women, cool bikes, and of course being on stage providing the music for all these events makes it an exciting time. And, oh yeah — corn dogs at the fairgrounds … LOL!
