A FAN'S EYE VIEW:
VANS Warped Tour 2008 - Ventura, CA – 6/22/08

My show buddy and I attended the Vans Warped Tour 2008 in Ventura, CA this past June.

Even though about 6% of my body is covered in sunburns (and believe me, that is not the worst compared to all the people there,) it was absolutely worth it!

Phillip Sneed of Story of The Year

We stood in line for about an hour, and that was really the worst part. The line went all the way around the fairgrounds and there were all kinds of bands passing out fliers and trying to sell their CD's.

When the music started to play, boy people were so mad – we were still in line!

Derek Sanders of Mayday Parade

Fans were yelling and crowding the fence. We entered and recognized Pierce the Veil's music and ran to the direction we heard it. Luckily, the Hurley stage was right across the entrance.

The bands that really got the crowd moving throughout the day were Cobra Starship, Family Force 5, Jeffree Star, We The Kings, and The Academy Is...

Set Your Goals

The crowd's energy was so intense, and it was really fun to dance during each band’s sets. Family Force 5 was my favorite act at the show - their techno music was so crazy and the whole crowd loved it!

Unfortunately, the bands I really wanted to see were honestly a BIG disappointment.

Against Me! had an amazing set. They played about eight songs and sounded exactly like their albums, but there was no involvement with the crowd. Watching the band, it felt like they wanted to get the set over with – as they played with less than enough passion.

John Ocallaghan of The Maine

Norma Jean was another disappointment giving a lackluster performance. I was expecting a lot more from them.

My opinion may sound biased, but if you’re part of a big show and tour like VANS Warped, you’d expect the bands to be on top of their game!

Jeremy Lenzo of Mayday Parade

Still, it was pretty amazing to walk around and pass stages while bands like Horror Pops, Anberlin, Reliant K, and The Gym Class Heroes were performing.

I really wished that I had more time to watch them, but with the amount of people crowded together it was impossible to see them up close.

I can't wait for next year!

Keep them coming. Also, reading other reviews that people have written is a good way to get ideas on voice and other elements of writing. Regardless, just keep on writing and you'll become more and more familiar with the way things work that you'd be unaware of otherwise :)
