Three local fighters stepped into the ring at Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore, Calif. on July 18 for its ninth Palace Fighting Championship (PFC).

The fourth fighter, Bryan Travers (10-1), who was scheduled to fight Morris Aldaco (6-0) was in the audience — obviously disappointed that his PFC World Welterweight title fight had been postponed due to Aldaco being injured.

Their fight has been rescheduled when PFC returns at the Tachi Palace on Sept. 26, pitting UFC and pride veteran Phil Baroni against Olaf Alfonso.

Bakersfield’s Alfredo Mirales lost by submission in round one by rear naked choke to Paul Chivo Gonzales of Lemoore.

Chuck Kim, a wrestling veteran from Cal State Bakersfield, lost by TKO (referee stoppage in round two due to strikes) to Oakland’s Dominique “Fallen Angel” Robinson.

The only Bakersfield fighter who went home with a victory was Juan Lopez, a 155 pound boxer who dominated Hanford favorite Jeremy “The Project” Luchau, winning by submission in round two.

Travers, who trains at Eric Nolan’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy, is looking forward to his title fight in September. Another local MMA favorite, Brian Cobb (13-2), is also on the September card against Lance Wipf.

The Tachi Palace is a short drive from Bakersfield. The hotel is fantastic, and the after parties following the fights are not to be missed!
