Colorful and Soothing Escape from the Heat!

Marisela Oropeza: Individual Works

An Art Exhibition Sponsored by The Arts Council of Kern and K.C.C.U

The Arts Council of Kern is proud to announce the latest art exhibition at Kern Central Credit Union (K.C.C.U), Marisela Oropeza: Individal Works, opening August 28, 2008 and on display until October 31, 2008. The series of original oil on canvas paintings feature the rich palette and geometric style that Oropeza is known for. Her cultural ties in both Mexico and California has influenced her art and the vibrant colors are reflective of the environments she grew up in.

Marisela Oropeza’s use of vibrant colors and geometric style at the core of her art. She states, “I play with colors that evoke passion and interest in my mind as well as with brush strokes that are ultimately symbolic of my essence, of my being alive and of my energy.” The cubism techniques of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque are a huge influence to Oropeza. She explains, “With the playful freedom that Cubism provides, I am able to represent the broken and remote facets of my life, and likewise, furnish the diverse and changing world that I often seek.”

The abstract elements of Marisela Oropeza’s work capture the viewer and it is impossible not to be drawn to the geometric figures. Music is a major influence as well, with Oropeza often capturing guitar and jazz musicians in her work. The Arts Council of Kern would like to invite the public to take part in Marisela Oropeza’s solo exhibition, opening August 28th and open during regular business hours at K.C.C.U. until October 31, 2008. The August 28th opening night will begin at 5:30pm and will feature live music, in addition to drinks and appetizers. Experience the abstract imagination of Marisela Oropeza’s work and enjoy the soothing colors as you escape from the heat!
