Wow, when I first learned what was scheduled for our next Bakersfield Jazz Workshop at the Nile, my head became full of images from every film noir I've ever seen.
You know, the ones in a small, dimly lit night club, a smoke filled room, couples sitting at their tables, whispering their conversations to each other. At the front of the room is a small stage, a single light on a lone piano. Then the piano player walks out, sits down, plays a few introductory bars...then all conversation stops as a gorgeous woman vocalist glides onto the stage, stands beside him, and starts to sing in that sultry, sexy voice...
Well, come on down to the Nile this Tuesday and see that scene re-enacted (without the smoke filled room of course!) as the BJW welcomes two hot local artists, vocalist Kama Ruby and pianist Ezekiel Victor, who will be putting a jazz spin on some popular rock hits, as well as performing some classic jazz standards!
