Its private scholarships, you can do whatever the hell you want to with them. And I've heard of white men applying for african american scholarships or women's scholarships and gotten them because they were the only ones to apply.  Haha.  But still, you probably could throw a caucasian scholarship in if you wanted to.  Of course, you'd be facing massive blowback from it.

tinog i understood what you mean and that's twisted someone would say that. You see just because you might only speak Spanish only . People don't know if you are legal or not. What about some white guy from England being in this country, he's illegal too. we just don't know unless someone actually says or can't show proof. To be judged on looks is pretty pathetic. I think we should not subsidize any certain race or ethnic group with tax payer dollars. Filling out an application that classifies your race could be solely used as statistical demographic research that would appease the minds of those concerned about fairness here in America. Though this statistical research is already in effect across the nation I think we could just leave it at that. There is truly no such thing as fairness as some of the minorities in America put it. Fairness to some of the minorities that complain about inequality here in America means that all employers have to employ at least a minimum percentage of minorities. This makes many Americans both Caucasians and minorities frustrated and outraged. My father in law, who is from El Salvador, came to America when he was 13 years old. My father in law worked his ass off and he gained respect from his employers who were white. He never complained to me about racism here in America and he sports the American flag in his front yard because he is proud of this country and the freedom he possesses. All the haters who bring up inequality here in America are obviously lazy, ignorant people who want every thing handed to them in life.

Maybe i said it wrong .I am not saying that someone calls me caucasian. I said when I was a kid in school they told me to fill out a form that asked what race I was and there were 3 choices , caucasian , black or asian . and today they would be more apt to call me an illegal alien than caucasian. and I went on to say that I call myself  American. I have never gotten anything free for being of Mexican decent . I have been the victim of prejudice many times but I dont freak out I just chuck it up to iignorance . people will say stuff like " you need to go Back to Mexico" and my respose is uh I was born in America.

That's been happening for years Annie hence the laws protecting against that. Even then, it's a still a "good ol' boys club" in many work establishments. Not just against races but gender.

Do you really feel discriminated against because there isn't a white people scholarship? Or do you really feel insulted when at the doctors office they ask you to check your "race" ... because you DO know it's not mandatory right?

Who was propsing that Annie?  I would think there needs to be a good cross section. But more importantly it should be who does the best job.

 As I recall when i was a kid in choosing sides for  a game it was the best players picked first, not  what color the kid was if you were picked last it was because you SUKED, not because your a certain color. ha ha

What about Chinese,  Chase the Barring Straights and  some  tribes of Native American don't look to much unlike  Chinese or Asian people.

Like I (can't remember which celeb)  puts so much money toward people that need  help with heart surgery dollars. Philanthropy is a beautiful thing and  happens in America, land of the free to give if you want.

I can't speak with 100% certainty on this, but I imagine that white people (historically) have not been the only group of people to draw dividing lines between themselves and other races.  I imagine that Euro-imperialism deepened a divide that may have previously been a flesh wound, and I imagine that language promotes this problem. Interesting bit:  "Native Americans" may have been here second to the Australian aboriginals.  If thats the truth, what does that say about entitlement and who owns what land.  We are all capable until our situation puts us at a disadvantage, then we have to reconcile a hoard of emotional and psychological delimmas.  Coping mechanisms are powerful things.

That sounds like the beginning of a joke or something! LOL I've been putting down "Mexican" my whole life and haven't gotten anything for free. Well, no wait. I got medical when I had my first two children. But then again, so did my white roommate.

I hsve a friend who is 1/2 mexican and 1/2 white she said that depending on what she is asking for is what she puts down on paper (ie: mexian or white) She is if you say you are mexican you get more.

I don't call you illegal.  You said you were born in Texas, why would someone  call you that. And besides we can talk about it. In a language we all understand ;) American English. I have no problem with who you are. Now if you were not  here in a legal manner and we had a language barrier,,. then we would have a  problem.

The language problem is very difficult. It's nice that every one speaks their own language. But when you interact with people out in public you should know the  language. I would be afraid I'd  be  screwed over. And sadly a lot of illegals are. It would be the same if I went to Mexico to live and  never cared to speak the language. I'd more than likely get screwed around too. Knowledge IS power. Knowledge of the language that  everyone speaks in a  particular place is empowering, other wise you are left out and people begin to think you don't matter because you have no voice. That's sad.  Some people no matter their race like to  take advantage of others.

tinog I wouldn't have said you were Caucasian,  although as you know Mexicans are part Caucasian, I'd say you were Native American , indigenous to this continent.. When i see a Mexican person I think of   Native Americans the look is very  pronounced. The culture is more steeped in  plain ol white guy from Western Europe Spanish,  with the language  closely related to Latin, but hey who am I to say.

First, scholarships are typically privately provided.  Benefactors usually donate the money and thats how the scholarships thing works.  Government grants are another matter.  But I also think that Obama doing that is not a bad thing, or racist in any manner. It is acknowledging a set of people who were not afforded that acknowledgement in previous years.  Its not a big deal. But as far as real racism, I think we've been fed this idea that not-white is somehow unequally portioned when it comes to ability.  Racial cohorts promote the images of their members, Society at large - and the interactions between cohorts - plays a huge role in perceived abilities, but in reality, you have a choice to make things better. White, black or any other race, the individual has a say too.  

It would be more appropriate for me to call myself  Mexican American than a black person to want me to call him African American . cus my parents were born in Mexico. And  at least I have been to Cabo San Lucas and Tijuana, several times ha ha ha but... I don't call myself that I was born In Texas but I have lives here since 1964 so what do I call my self? well I am American . I served in the Marines during the Vietnam war . I am an American and that's it.

I think they do it to see "how far we've come" as far as minorities not going to the doctor for cutural reasons, or monetary reasons, etc. I don't think they do it to single me out as a "Mexican"..

Census only needs to know sexes and ages of those dwelling in the home. In my opinion race does not need to be involved.We're not Europe where its divided between countries. We're serperated by states. Being Italian in america usually means you're from NY or NJ..... heh. If you're german maybe Penn State, but its all in America thats divided into states not countries of origin. WTF I thought we fought a revolution against Europe for a reason.

Is it racism to acknowledge that there are different races in this country?  Is it racism to acknowledge that some races had it harder than others during the history of our country?  Would you have been as put off if the president gave tribute to Irish-Americans because of the troubles they had faces as a minority during our history?

Well I don't mind people coming here, i just don't think they deserve anything for free. I think people would be more welcoming to immigrants if they felt they were more equal. It unfair that we work hard and get nothing free and have to pay out the ass in taxes. Then an immigrant comes here and gets welfare especially when they do it illegally. There needs to be some reform there.

I don't think its fair you get "perks" solely based on race. Like scholarships. I think it should be based on grades not race.

 How about the Equal Opportunity Program lead by the EEOC? Everyone who checks the box other than the Caucasian box falls under the EEOC and those people have an upper hand on getting hired or promoted just because they are not white. If I were not Caucasian I would be deeply insulted about this! All EEOC is basically telling everyone is that all non white people have a disadvantage to get hired in corporate America. I think this program stirs up allot of anger and adds more racial tension here in America. Since we have all these black people who have become famous like King Jr., Tiger Woods, Venus Williams, Mike Jordan and Obama doesn't that mean that white people in America aren't so one sided anymore?

In the next decade you will see us catering to the Mexicans who live here in America since they claim we stole CA from them. Oh wait we already do! We put up traffic signs in Spanish and English por los pinche bendejos who run across the road in San Diego so they don't get ran over. Every thing in California is written in Spanish and English. What I don't get is some Mexicans come here to the U.S. because they were starved to death and oppressed by their own country but they sport the Mexican flag in their rear view mirror.  Uncle Sam aint no uncle in my book.....I think he is more like a degenerate house wife living on welfare and child support who's kids got 10 different daddies.
