Clinton will LOWER gas prices!

If you vote for Hillary, she'll lower gas prices at least for the summer if not longer. OR NOT???? Stuff like this makes me NOT believe in politicians. Why promise something you know you  can't do?

Obama said the proposal to suspend the 18.4 cents-a-gallon gasoline tax and the 24.4-cent diesel tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day would provide little in actual savings to motorists. He said oil companies would quickly raise prices to make up the difference.

"It's a stunt. It's what Washington does," Obama said in Evansville, Ind.

Obama's stance was backed up by 230 economists who released a letter Monday opposing the gas tax holiday. The signers included four Nobel Prize winners and economic advisers to presidents of both parties.

Late Monday, Clinton acknowledged the difficulty of getting such a gax-tax suspension enacted in the next few weeks. "Realistically, it's tough," Clinton told reporters on her campaign plane

forget gas TAXES... lower gas PRICES and then we might be ok. LOL

here or there...this or that... gas prices suck! I'll take what I can get even if its just for the summer. Of coarse I would love it they removed gas taxes altogether forever!

I didn't get to read all of what was said(I only say the first page) Japo summed it up very good;) I agree totally. I totally agree with SamG too. It's the "Media" it's the "Democrats" it's the "Republican's"  NO! It's us, We can make a difference if we would make those people sit up and take notice. Our numbers are large if  we all agree we need to do something about it. We KNOW politician's aren't.

I have to say Don gas prices have been rising  much more faster  in the last 8 years than ever before, Before a Demo Congress. It's the oil companies themselves in bed with everyone to get what they want. Tell me Don you might know better than I being a little older. Was "retooling for the season EVER and issue before? Seems like I never heard that until lately. And you are right about refineries. If more were built it would help. But we ALLL know that won't happen. Doesn't matter what party is in office for that one. We better stay away from corn for ethanol too. If anything maybe sugar for gas. Greed is true, The oil companies  flaunted it last year and this year "RECORD PROFIT FOR OIL"  IF we all didn't go anywhere for a  day or two,. (The WHOLE country, meaning no gas usage, no buying it might send a message). Forget the "I won't buy gas on the day everyone is not supposed to" That never works. Notice when there is an inquest as to price gouging the prices go down, or have in the past, hmmm interesting huh? Greed Greed Greed, THAT is something everyone  in power has their hand in.

LOL japo! Well done.

And for the record, I really dislike when people blame things on "the Republicans" or "the Democrats" for all the problems in the world... as in, "blah blah blah, because the Democrats are doing this..." or "blah blah, because the Republicans are idiots..." Let's just accept the fact that it's not always the other people who are wrong; political leaders of every party have done stupid things. Capiche?

ooh. I actually learned something today. Thanks japo!!!

I think you guys are all right (but wrong in assuming your reason is the sole reason). Gas has been going up since the pre-emptive invasion of Iraq, thats not news. If you dont believe that I dont know where youve been these past 5 years. Its common sense, Remember oilfields being blown up and oil being used to to keep the war machine alive. Thats oil that didnt reach its consumers while oil is being spent in the war. HOWEVER, it is also not a secret that developing countries like India and China have been growing exponentially, which requires more oil. Not to mention, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, which have always been gas guzzlers.

So that puts us at:, less gas coming from the region, US's share being split to fund a war, 3rd world nations expanding (yay, Wal Mart),

Hurricane Katrina happnes and not only destroys a region but puts a halt to Gulf of Mexico crude, Hugo Chavez offers discount oil and natural gas for the people of Louisiana, Bush refuses cause Chavez is a tyrant, ok fair enough. Bush holds hands with the Saudi princes, who by the way control the largest Oil reserves in the world, and by default OPEC! This cartel controls world prices and they love high prices. Just ask anybody of driving age in the 1970s, they will tell you the power of OPEC.

So that puts us at: Refused free gas for devastated region cuase Bush hates Chavez, but Makes out with the person who could help economy by producing more or lower prices, hmm!!!

Back at the homefront, Halliburton has decided to move their corporate headquarter to Qatar. So Cheneys company, in the midst of a Democrat probably winning in november, realizes no more over charging and screwing taxpayers. The reason why Halliburton is leaving Houston, becuase the oil world lives in Arabia. For the past 10 years, it was not a problem, and with the increase of internet, faxes, video phones, iphone and iEverything, Executives for Halliburton find communication a problem. So aside from overcharging, and holding back renewable energy progress, Halliburton plans on leaving with all the money they screwed us and going to billionaires paradise in Qatar.

OK, lets back track, War stops production, war waste part of our share of oil, India-China are oil hungry, no free gas from bad people but ok to hold hands with good people with bad intentions, new president scares oil execs into leaving country.

Wait, What was the question again?

that's nice. thanks for the link  but they said "WE BELIEVE" that's an opinion. k

i BELIEVE you are wrong. but like i said NOT ENTIRELY but mostly THE GOVERNMENT TAXES IT ! like 60 cents a gallon. what the hell do you call that. GOVERNMENT GREED

The price of oil was 25 dollars a barrel when the war began. Now it is over 100 dollars per barrel. That is not a coincidence. And it is dragging our entire economy down and leading us into a recession.

www.upi.com/International_Security/Energy/Analysis/2008/01/29/outside_view_oil_firms_boom_on_iraq_war/6005/

"The idea that the Iraq War and its incendiary potential for the Middle East are contributing to oil price inflation is reinforced in the 2006 report, "The Economic Cost of the Iraq War: An Appraisal Three Years After the Beginning of the Conflict" by Linda Bilmes, former assistant secretary and chief financial officer of the U.S. Department of Commerce and now at Harvard's Kennedy School, and Joseph Stiglitz, winner of the Nobel Prize for economics in 2001, former chair of the Council of Economic Advisers and Columbia University economist.

"We believe … the impact of Iraq on oil prices is a large proportion of the $45-a-barrel increase since the war began. … Given U.S. imports of roughly 5 billion barrels a year, a $10-per-barrel increase translates into an extra expenditure of approximately $50 billion. Americans are poorer by that amount … if we base our estimates on a $10 price increase, and assume … it extends for a least six years, the cost is $300 billion."

Greed!

*standing ovation for the agreeance between gramps and annie!

whooo hooo. LOL

I don't really know much about why gas prices are so high. I'm sure it's a combination of oh.. ummmm GREED and ummmm GREED and ummmm... the economy and ummm...oh yeah,  the war. LOL

"Gas is $4.00 per gallon because of the War In Iraq, pure and simple....."

nope. you are wrong wrong wrong but not entirely but mostly. i love the band wagons people like to jump on, "BUSH LIED TROOPS DIED"  "NO BLOOD FOR OIL" *PUKE* of course have you thought of GREED? possibly? government possibly?

(1st time i have agreed with gramps)

The war is part of the problem , but so is the greatly increasing demand from other countries, especially China.  China is the biggest problem for almost all of the economic problems in the world.  Ships bring stuff to us, and go back empty.  Balance of trade is non existent.  Period.

And when they bring the troops home,  I hope you are standing by with your slingshot to defend OUR country.

Even if they decrease the sales tax, it would be for the SUMMER only. I'm sorry but I need relief for longer than the summer.

The laws of supply and demand are simple enough for anyone to understand. The war in Iraq has been increasing the demand for oil and reducing the supply for five straight years. That is the reason why the price of oil is at a record high and is expected to go higher still.  Blaming the "democrats" or "taxes" is beyond silly....

Here's a good explanation of how the war drives up oil prices:

www.uslaboragainstwar.org/article.php

Hillary and McCain both look equally ridiculous promising to save us by reducing taxes. The problem is the war in Iraq. It's time to bring the troops home. And skyrocketing fuel prices is only a small part of the damage this war is doing to our country....

The huge increase in China more than offsets that usage.  And India wants all of their 3 billion people to have a car.  Japan imports more oil than anyone.

Why is it $5.00 a gallon in Norway and Sweden?  Taxes.  Norway has vast supplies of oil in the North Sea.  Gas in Venzuela is probably about 20 cents.  Viva Chavez.

The average American family uses 1200 gallons of gas a year.  Doing what?  I do not support the dems but it will be fun, if either Hill or Barry wins to see them continue to blame Bush for everything from now on forever.  Even Letterman  will have to change his humorous "presidential speeches" schtick.  But, I won't have voted for whomever that might be.

Here's a good site that shows just how much oil the US military is burning up in it's illegal occupation of Iraq.

www.energybulletin.net/13199.html

It's 365,000 barrels per day. Or 40 Million barrels per year more than what they burn in peace time.

Meanwhile Iraq, which is one of the biggest oil producing nations, and posseses the largest untapped oil reserves in the world, is producing hardly any oil at all since the invasion.

So the US military is creating a huge demand for oil at the same time that the occupation has disrupted the supply of oil.

Gas is $4.00 per gallon because of the War In Iraq, pure and simple.....

in 2002 California's gas tax was 50.4 cent a gallon. that's a lot of tax. Screw this government. Selfish bastards. that's more than sales tax. (of course you know this )

 remember democrats raise taxes (always)

and Clinton could say anything she wants she is a very horrible liar, and if anyone remembers Peter Paul, you would remember she is a liar, its funny how the media is not talking about it

Gas prices have been rising ever since I can remember.  In 1950 it was 18 cents a gallon.  In 1960 it was about 35 cents.  Figure it out.

Gas prices have been rising since the invasion of Iraq.

Figure it out...

Does the fact that our Democratic controlled congress won't allow any new drilling anywhere in our country, and won't permit any new refinerys have any thing to do with it? No new refineries have been built in over 25 years.  Look at the flap going on in Bakersfield with Flying J, who would produce 1 million gallons of gasoline a day.  Will they be allowed to expand?  Stay tuned.

Also, I think about the only thing that will matter is if China, Japan and India all decide they do not need any more oil.  It is the tight supplies that creates high prices.

Because they can.

heee.  too funny. But really. Somebody PLEASE lower gas prices. geez louize!

My friends and I were talking and one blurted, "Why is it that the government is involved in BASEBALL but not gas prices. How the hell does that happen? UGH

Got her all figured out huh? Ha ha
