A few especially active places are the old school house were children are still heard singing and talking, the old jail that has a feeling of despair and sorrow, and if you stand on the slab of concrete that is reserved for entertainment, located in the center of the surrounding buildings. You will always feel like someone is watching you from the windows of the buildings themselves.

GEPRS Results: The reports of the human remains all here-say
and in no way have we confirmed it to be fact.
7)
Severity Of Haunting: Fair
Details: There has been several reports from Businesses and Home Owners in this area that they are experiencing activity. There are two especially haunted locations in which have reported objects moving or disappearing. Disembodied voices. Strange sightings of a figures floating about.
GEPRS Results: This area was once the site of an old Mortuary and Graveyard. **See Below (8) For More Details.
8) 20th Street, 21st Street, thru to Westchester Ave.: Location: "Same"
Severity Of Haunting: "HOT"
Details: Ghostly Apparitions Of All Sorts, Phantom Joggers And Homeless People walking About, Spirits Of Children, A Reported Ghost Woman, Vision Of A Man Murder By His Wife. And Much More.
GEPRS Results: Although the majority of these stories or reports are second hand we at GEPRS can say that we have had our own real experiences in these areas and can account for positive substantiated information through history study and research. Note that this area has had numerous reports and with good reason. This entire area was once one of the cities cemeteries. Most of the remains had been interred and moved to other cemeteries including Union Cemetery. Which by the way like most of the cemeteries in town have some sort of activity. But what may account for most if not all of the reports is the fact that not all the remains had been recovered and reburied in sacred ground. There are still remains being found to this day as building and rebuilding takes place. There was a supposed murder in this area. A woman murdered her husband and it has been said that it is felt that this accounts for some of the activity on a certain street in this area. This has also been the reported site of an old hospital in which several children had died from an outbreak of yellow fever. Many people have been wandering at night in this area. Which would be normal except they are people in period clothing and or are either, as some current residents have reported to look, "wispy" or "transparent" like. These people have been seen wandering around all over this area at night and some in the day time. GEPRS has to report that in one of the homes in this area there is a home that has been rented out and rented out several times because of a terrible feeling you get when you are on the property. {UPDATE: GEPRS has investigated once again and have observed on 10/10/08 that someone has moved out once again and a new family was moving back in that very day}. The members of GEPRS have experienced this same feeling at this location so we know this to be valid. There is also an Estate Sale in the West Chester areat that GEPRS members had attended. The more sensitive members in the group swore they saw the deceased lady owner of the home standing close by in a room in which people were rummaging through her belongings. She was very angry and in some ways a bit confused that people were buying and taking her belongings. The GEPRS group rushed from the house quickly as the woman looked right at them.
9) H st and 20th: Location: Several Areas
Severity Of Haunting: Med
Details: Apparitions of a Fireman, Dapper Gentlemen, And Ladies Of The Night. There has been a Fireman seen in this area and it is not known if this is an actual haunting or just a recording of the past. He is known to be dressed in a uniform of the past century. There are also reported in this area prostitutes and their gentlemen callers, or also known as "Ladies Of The Evening", "Soiled Doves", or various other names. In the late 1800's early 19th century Bakersfield was have growing pains and with this came many single men looking for their fortune and a place to settle. With this growth came many businesses to meet the needs of the growing population. One of these industries was tolerated and excepted as long as certain laws were followed. And that was the business of prostitution or "cribs" as they were called. This happened in many locations down town and was a prosperous and booming business until that is when more people moved into town which brought "gentile upstanding citizens", "respected businesses", and oh yes "Churches". To make a long story short these "Cribs" were shut down by the end of the 1900's. So this could account for the sightings and activity still observed to this day in that area.
10) Oleander Ave. Location: Private Residence
Severity Of Haunting: Med to High
Details: There has been reported an old Japanese Woman that lives with a family here. The only thing unusual about this is that the woman has been dead since World War II. She talks regularly to the family that now owns the house and tends to the garden and plants outside as if she had never left. During the time of World War II there was much mistrust and suspicion towards the Japanese and German people. This unfortunately included many of the Japanese and German residents in Bakersfield. They were taken to Internment camps in the high desert and staid there until the war was over. Most reports were that they were taken care of well by the American people but they longed to get back to their lives and homes in Bakersfield and surrounding California. Many came back to Bakersfield to start a new life. Some went back to their native land in Japan. But a small few, either old or sick, did not make it back at all and either past away shortly on their return out of the camps or in the camp itself. One such woman owned a home with her husband in the Oleander area. They had a Nursery there and grew flowers and exotic plants. Like most of the Japanese citizens in that area they were taken to the camps. The old man survived but the old woman did not. Years past and new people moved into the house were they so lovingly cared for their flowers. But to this day the old woman has returned and lives with the family making contact with them on a regular basis. **Note that in this area is also the site of an old Japanese Cemetery that had been dug up and moved to another location. This may account for other reported activity in this area.
GEPRS Results: This story had been reported to GEPRS from the current residents themselves. And with research we have found that there is truth to the history of the home and the area.
Well that's about it..there are many many more locations but these are just a few that are regularly reported to be Haunted.

hi there, i came across this site and thought that perhaps you may be interested in interviewing my father who used to work at pioneer village as a custodian. i personally have had experiences in the main museum when i used to work there for the once a year "heritage days" celebration back when i was a young teenager. however, my father would be the one you may want to meet.
best regards,
Edward
i lived on 18th street for a while in a huge duplex that my parent owned and were restoring.... it was definitely haunted! it was so scary, i was upstairs and would wake to somebody beating on the windows but nobody was there. also lights would turn on and the actual switch would be flipped, not just an electrical problem- my mom actually saw a young man standing over her bed one night. i could go on and on, sometimes it was a really evil feeling there and it would scare us really bad. our dogs were also afraid. i am glad to be out of there!!
Yeah , never saw a "ghost" hurt anyone. But I've seen a few belligerent transients.
Joe,
The old Baker. And phantom transients. Now that area really scare me sometimes. And I don't mean the ghosts. We are more afraid of the living then the deceast. haha

The old baker/ sumner one,.or the new one?
Kindra79,
Yep it is one of the most active places we have ever lived and investigated. Especially the down town area.
Hey never mentioned this in the Top Ten but the train station has reports of happenings there as well. So it sounds as if you friend was walking through a lot of Hot Spots. haha So its no wonder haha. I hope they will be ok and come back and visit. I have to say that most of Bako's Ghosts are friendly and we have never had any serious mean contacts when investigating.
Thanks Kindra and it was good to hear from you again.

The next day we were talking and he said that there was something that really spooked him, he even had called his brother and was like - I've been a lot of places and have arrived in many random unplanned down, but this one is really spooky.
